I dedicated 20 years to public education as a classroom educator before making the decision to transition out of the traditional school system. After a six-month period of de-schooling, I embarked on a new chapter focused on raising both my biological child and a foster son, who has become an integral part of our family. Throughout this journey, I continue to apply the principles and methodologies I learned from the public education system, including STEM-based, project-driven learning, real-world application of academic concepts, and the integration of effective child development and learning strategies.
I am a strong advocate for lifelong learning through everyday experiences, real-life encounters, and extracurricular activities. One particularly valuable learning approach I embrace is road schooling with my family, which involves exploring museums, state parks, cultural centers, and attending various events. This method fosters curiosity and encourages the development of well-rounded, lifelong learners. Additionally, our micro-farm serves as another platform where I teach children empathy and provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences.
Throughout my career, I have taught in a variety of settings, including traditional urban classrooms, project-based STEM environments, and hybrid school models, where parents have the flexibility to select specific classes and days for their children. These diverse experiences have provided me with a wealth of knowledge that I incorporate into both my homeschool practices and my piano studio.
My goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of education to effectively tailor programs that meet the unique needs of each family. This individualized approach is essential, as every family has distinct circumstances and aspirations. The ability to customize and adapt a program to suit each child’s needs is a significant advantage that traditional schools often cannot provide. I am committed to respecting each family’s goals and working diligently to support the success of their child, ensuring a personalized and effective educational experience.
Although not a requirement for homeschool families in Ohio, many parents choose to have their children assessed for their personal records and peace of mind. Currently, I provide homeschool assessments for families in both New York and Ohio, and I continue to maintain my teaching licenses in both states.
As a lifelong learner, I continually engage in reading, research, and professional development courses to stay informed about the latest practices in both the public education system and the homeschool environment.
Whether your family is homeschooling, participating in hybrid education, or enrolled in a traditional school, I am here to assist with assessments and Notices of Intent (NOIs).
If you refer me and I assess others you will get a $5 credit/coupon per referral for the next assessment.
